This course discusses the basic theory of probability and stochastic process with some applications to the earthquake engineering which include the method to estimate the phase velocities using the microtremors. Furthermore, the technique of the time-frequency analysis will be introduced to analyze the ground motions by earthquakes or microtremors.

The grading policy is based on a project and its presentation. Topics dealt in this course include:

1. Introduction to the probability.
2. Introduction to the stochastic process.
3. Analytical properties of stochastic process.
4. A method to estimate the phase velocities.
5. Basic idea of time-frequency analysis.
