A structural frame is designed in consideration of structural own weight, other dead weight, live load, earthquake and strong wind, etc. Fundamentally, when such loads are applied to the frame, severe damage or large vibration are not accepted. We have to permit however, these damage or vibration against the earthquake which occurs very rarely, and a very strong wind also. In order to treat the advanced design of frames, it is necessary to understand the plastic theory and the theory of material and geometrical nonlinear analysis. Topics dealt in this course include:
- Material nonlinearity and plastic deformation of members
- Lower bound theory of ultimate strength
- Upper bound theory of ultimate strength
- Uniqueness theory of ultimate strength
- Ultimate strength of frame structures
- Meaning of allowable stress design
- Interaction of frame capacity under multiple forces
- Material and geometrical nonlinear analysis of frames (1)
- Material and geometrical nonlinear analysis of frames (2)
- Material and geometrical nonlinear analysis of frames (3)
