Travel Support for Young Researchers
Eligibility funding is available in the form of Travel Awards for up to some forty (40) individuals: PhD students, early-career academics, and early-career professionals, including those studying or working at one of our collaborating institutions.
1. Eligibility Requirements
An applicant must be either a PhD student or an individual holding a recent PhD degree (i.e., post-doc). Neither undergraduates nor master’s course students are entitled to apply.
N.B. All grants assume full participation in the conference and the presentation of an approved paper at one of the sessions.
Applicants to 10CUEE should not have received a Travel Award in any previous year. However, those Young Researchers having already received a grant in the past may nonetheless have the opportunity to receive one this year, should the content of their Full Paper prove sufficiently outstanding in the judgment of this year's Review Committee.
2. How To Apply
Anyone interested in obtaining one of these grants should register for travel support through our web page after submitting a full paper to be accompanied by a Letter of Recommendation* from a supervisor or senior colleague by December 31, 2012, in time for our selection process that is scheduled for early January 2013. (Registration can be made through your registration page.)@
* Letter of Recommendation requires institutional letterhead and signature of a supervisor, or other named recommender, stating relationship to the candidate.
3. Decision
Award decisions will be based on the excellence of the submitted conference paper and/or the overall strength of the applicant's previous scholarly record and Recommendation, as judged by the Travel Award Committee.
Presenters in the Young Researchers Session automatically recieve first priority for Travel Awards.
4. Important Notice
- The travel grant will cover the cost of your round-trip flight (lowest or discount economy class), basic hotel expenses, and basic registration fee.
- We can fund your accommodation only during the conference period: arrival in Tokyo on February 28th and departure on March 3rd.
- If circumstances warrant, you may extend your stay in Japan at your own expense but only for one more day if the main purpose of your travel has been to attend the conference.
- We may be unable to pay for your round-trip flight ticket should you decide to prolong your stay beyond the one-day extension.
