Application for Postdoctoral Fellowship under the Global COE Program

  1. AIM OF THE FELLOWSHIP
    The purpose of this fellowship is to provide opportunities for young postdoctoral researchers to conduct research related to the Global COE Program: “International Urban Earthquake Engineering Center for Mitigating Seismic Mega Risk”.

  2. NUMBER OF FELLOWSHIPS TO BE AWARDED
    A certain number of people

  3. ELIGIBILITY
    The applicant must hold a doctoral degree at the time the Fellowship goes into effect and be willing and able to conduct research related to the Global COE Program: “International Urban Earthquake Engineering Center for Mitigating Seismic Mega Risk”.

  4. DURATION AND TERMS
    - 2010 Duration: From Apr. 1st, 2010 (or as soon as possible after that date) to March 31st, 2011.
    - The contract may be extended on a yearly basis until the end of fiscal year 2012 (March, 2013), if approved.
    - Expected hours of presence: 38 hours 45 minutes / week, OR 35 hours / week.
    - The exact amount of each fellowship is calculated by Tokyo Institute of Technology (about 300,000-600,000 yen/ month depending on quality of research proposal and previous research achievement).

  5. APPLICATION PROCEDURE
    First step:
    Initially, a prospective applicant is requested to get in touch with one of the Core Members of the CUEE listed at http://www.cuee.titech.ac.jp/English/Members/core.html, in order to discuss and vet the plan of your intended research.

    In doing so, be sure to provide your full name and present institutional or occupational affiliation, as well as the title of your doctoral dissertation, name of the institution to which it was presented, and year the degree was awarded.

    Second step:
    Only after this step has been completed, should a formal application be submitted to the office indicated below.
    Materials to be prepared by the applicant:
    1. Application Form (PDE) to be filled in and signed by the applicant
    2. Letter of recommendation
    3. A PDF-file of the application form (send to: apply@cuee.titech.ac.jp)

  6. APPLICATION DEADLINE
    - The deadline for application is Jan. 29th, 2010, till 5pm (JST) for implementation as of Apr. 1st, 2010.   If the positions are not filled by this deadline, we will continue to receive applications until all positions are filled.  However, please postmark the application two months in advance of the day you expect to start. Contact a CUEE supervisory member belonging to your own professional discipline at CUEE.

  7. SELECTION AND RESULTS
    After documentary screening and interview, the applicant will be informed directly of his/ her result.
