Travel Support for Young Researchers

Eligibility funding is available in the form of Travel Awards for up to some thirty (30) individuals: PhD students, early-career academics, and early-career professionals, including those studying or working at one of our collaborating institutions. Note that priority is normally accorded younger applicants, such as PhD students and post-docs who have not received a Travel Award in any previous year, although a Travel Award can be granted in exceptional cases for successive years. Those young researchers having received a grant in the past may still have the opportunity to receive one again this year should the content of their Full Paper prove outstanding in the judgment of this year's review committee.

All grants assume full participation in the joint conference and the presentation of an approved paper at one of the sessions.

Anyone interested in obtaining one of these grants should register for travel support through our web page after submitting a full paper to be accompanied by a Letter of Recommendation* from a supervisor or senior colleague, in time for our selection process that is scheduled for early January 2012. (The registration may be made through our registration page.)

* Letter of Recommendation requires institutional letterhead and signature of supervisor, or other named recommender, stating relationship to candidate.

Important Notice

  1. The travel grant will cover the cost of your round-trip flight (lowest or discount economy class), basic hotel expenses, and basic registration fee.
  2. We can fund your accommodation only during the conference period: arrival in Tokyo on March 4th or 5th and departure on March 9th.
  3. If circumstances warrant, you may extend your stay in Japan at your own expense for up to two days on condition that the main purpose of your travel is to attend the conference.
  4. We may be unable to pay for your round-trip flight ticket should you decide to prolong your stay beyond a maximum two-day extension.
