1. General Prospectus
Tokyo Institute of Technology (hereafter referred to as Tokyo Tech) launches an International Graduate Program on October 1, 2007. It aims to offer overseas students an opportunity to enroll directly in the Master’s or Doctoral programs at Tokyo Tech to qualified students with little or no knowledge of Japanese to pursue a full-degree program of advanced studies in Japan.
Tokyo Tech has six Graduate Schools, namely, the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Graduate School of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, Graduate School of Decision Science and Technology (collaboration with Graduate School of Innovation Management), each of which participates in the program. There are various programs, so students will be able to find the program in which they would like to research and study, to acquire broader knowledge and understanding, and to conduct an advanced research in the long view. A limited number of Monbukagakusho (Japanese Government) Scholarships are available for research and study in the International Graduate Program.
Since lectures and seminars are given in English, it is no longer essential to master the Japanese language. However, Japanese is the language of daily life, students in the program are encouraged to attend a few Japanese classes per week on a regular basis for further enrichment.
2. Programs
The International Graduate Program offers a choice of six curricular programs relating to thirty five departments of Tokyo Tech and it enables students to obtain a master’s or doctoral degree only in English. These programs are consists of Integrated Doctoral Education Program, Master’s program and Doctoral program.
