An honourable visit to UC Berkeley

Many thanks are kindly given to CUEE at Tokyo Tech and PEER Center at UC Berkeley for granting me an opportunity to attend and do poster presentation at the 2011 PEER Annual Meeting held in Berkeley, California (29/9 – 01/10/2011). I have been always longing ever since for one day I could arrive at UC Berkeley, one of the most well-known institute of technology in the world especially in structural and earthquake engineering. My Professor received his degree from there, so he is very proud of it and encourages me to visit it, a very nice campus. Prior to the main meeting, I had a truly unforgettable day participating in the Young Researchers Workshop, presenting my research and communicating with other international students, joining in the technical tour to the friction pendulum bearings factory. Later in the day, I was eventually present at the UC Berkeley campus, which made me so impressed. Full of green, fresh air and a variety of ancient library buildings, it is really a very student-friendly campus. Two days later attending the meeting gave me a bunch of updated knowledge for my research field. I am still a beginner with a very long race ahead, and I am aware that I need to keep up making more and more efforts to contribute useful results to earthquake engineering research field aiming to mitigate mega risk of earthquake to human beings.
