Special Conference Sessions for Young Researchers

 Troy Morgan, CUEE

As part of the recent joint assembly of the 9th Annual Conference on Earthquake Engineering and the 4th Asian Conference on Earthquake Engineering, several important activities were organized to highlight the significant accomplishments of young researchers from around the world and to inspire their active participation in the conference program. To further this goal, the conference included a special series of presentation sessions that highlighted the research accomplishments of young conference participants. These sessions were arranged by engineering discipline, and all young researchers made full oral presentations that were judged by an international panel of prominent experts in their field. Awards were then given to the top presenters for each session. Several studentsremarked that these sessions gave them an opportunity to communicate their research to a wide variety of attendees from around the world, and would certainly lead to future collaborations.
